About this website...
As mentioned before, this website has been changed umpteen times and this last iteration has been done according to the principles set out below.
I have tried to simplify the site as it was felt that although everything was accessible the menu structure was becoming too complex. Adding a page required altering a number of other supporting pages and so it was becoming less than fun to maintain the website.
Some sections that would always be incomplete (i.e.logbook pages) have been left out. Keeping these up to date involved much ongoing work without the assurance of being of much interest to others.
Another factor was that it was annoying trying to combat various web editor programmes altering my html code. Accordingly, I am now using 'CoffeCup HTML Editor' (registered) to write the code for the pages directly.
General Purpose
I find having to write things down makes it easier to get the mind's picture of things in some sort of order. Things that exist only in one's thoughts, or mentioned in verbal communication don't have a real existence. Writing something down exposes ideas to scrutiny, analysis and therefore correction. The more corrections one makes to one's ideas, the closer to being correct your ideas presumably are. That process appeals to me...
I do my website writing a bit like my life partner does her gardening. She enjoys laying out the garden beds, comes back later and stands back and views her work. Sometimes she pulls out plants that don't work well, does the occasional weeding and sometimes rips up a whole garden bed and starts from scratch. So goes my website writing...
The Name 'Djirra'...
'Djirra' is variously an aboriginal name for the Red-backed Kingfisher, Kangaroo or lightweight spears depending on the language group. There were originally about 250 separate aboriginal languages, each with two or three dialects.
On several occasions over the years a Red-backed Kingfisher has been sighted near the river below our block.
Perhaps more contemporary (and certainly more appropriate here...), Lieutenant Djirra was an Imperial logistics officer during the Galactic Civil War. Djirra was tasked with researching the carbon freezing process when Darth Vader invaded Cloud City...
The "Principles"
-
Structure - All pages accessible from side menu. The menu is
a dynamic site-map which is present on every page and changes
depending on content category (see "The Content" below). There are
no hidden pages. Requires javascript to be enabled.
-
Browsers - Tested on Internet Explorer version 8, Firefox
version 4 and Opera version 11. My apologies if it is not
compatible with your browser.
-
Resolution - Width set for use on 800 pixels. Sorry if it
doesn't fill up your widescreen.
-
External Links - In general links will be to pages I have
control over or to fairly permanent sites. Links to other sites
seem to come and go and get out of date.
The Content
Originally the content was split into a main site containing all the other interests - with the amateur radio content attached via another site. I have had a rethink and now the main site has subdomains for each of the content categories - currently..
- VK2XV Amateur Radio
- Other Interests and
- Motorcycles.
